Know Your Windows: Do Your Windows Need To Be Replaced?

Construction & Contractors Blog

The windows on your home protect your home from the elements for a good 20 years. Once your windows are older than that, you can begin to experience a number of problems that indicate you need to have your windows replaced. When your windows are too old, you are going to lose money when trying to heat and cool your home. The windows may no longer function properly, making it harder to open and close. You might see your window gets stuck, or they no longer make your home look good from the outside. When you are trying to improve your home's curb appeal, new windows have a positive impact.

Your Windows are More than 20 Years Old

If your windows have lasted over the last 20 years or more, it's time to consider replacement windows. Technology is always improving, and old windows aren't going to give you the same protection that new windows are. When your windows struggle to go up and down, or you can visibly see warps in the window frame, it's time to get new replacement windows for your home to keep your home protected.

You Want to Save Money on Energy Costs

Old windows do more than cause your home to be drafty. In order to save money on heating and cooling costs, you have to replace windows when they are no longer able to keep the air in your home. Replacement windows give you the energy savings you need when it comes to utility bills in your home. Over time, new windows are going to pay for themselves in savings from your utility bills.

You Sustained a Serious Storm

There are times when your home may sustain a major storm. While your house structure may still be intact, serious damage could have been done to the windows in your home. If your home is still standing after a hurricane or a tornado, get the windows in your home checked to make sure they are still structurally sound. You can have your windows tested to see how much air they leak. This can give you a better understanding of whether you need new windows or not.

Replacement windows can improve the curb appeal of your home and give you the utility savings you want at the same time. When your windows are old and no longer functioning properly, it's time to consider how replacement windows can help your home.

Construction Needs in Times of Disaster

I live in the middle of the desert, so I never thought that flooding would be a problem. However, a few months ago my town was hit with a huge storm. These freak storms are called "Hundred Year Storm" because the chances of them happening are once in a hundred years. Needless to say, no one was prepared for the aftermath--especially not the city sewage system. All this extra water had no where to go, and suddenly, I found my basement flooded. It wasn't a fun experience, but we dealt with it the best we could. Since then, I have spent a lot of time looking into different options for sewage, water lines, and other related things. We're now even looking into building a new house. This blog is the result of my ongoing research.
