Fresh And Clean Carpet Tips: 3 DIY Mixtures You Must Try Between Professional Cleanings

Whether you have cats and dogs that think they need to use the bathroom on your carpet or you have kids running in and out of the house with muddy shoes and leaving their prints behind, it can be hard to keep your carpet clean all the time. This is especially true if you have it professionally cleaned, which can't be done every single day for most people. Luckily, there are a few homemade secrets that you may not be aware of that can help keep your carpet looking fresh and clean in between professional cleanings.

Cornmeal and Borax Mixture

According to SF Gate, a mixture of two parts cornmeal to every one part borax can help do wonders for your carpet. Whether you're looking to get rid of odors, prevent the growth of mold or remove minor stains, this mixture is exactly what you're looking for. You can spot use it or use it all over. Either way, make sure to leave it for roughly one hour before vacuuming it up.

Rosemary, Baking Soda, Cinnamon and Ground Cloves Mixture

If you don't have any stains on your carpet right now and just want a delicious carpet freshener recipe that can be sprinkled onto your carpet and vacuumed up, then this mixture may be just what you need. You will need one cup of dried, crushed herbs (such as rosemary or lavender), one teaspoon baking soda, one teaspoon cinnamon and one teaspoon of ground cloves. All you need to do is combine the ingredients well and sprinkle over the entire carpet. Allow it to sit for at least a few minutes and then vacuum it up. Your home will spell like you just opened up a bag of potpourri.

Vinegar and Water Mixture

For beer and cat urine stains, you can use a simple mixture of white vinegar and water. According to Martha Stewart, the vinegar is a mild acid that works to neutralize the urine and beer. You will mix one part vinegar with one part water and apply it to the stain. Blot it and rinse. If the stain is still present, use a bit of warm soapy water and rinse again. You can continue alternating these methods until the stain is gone.

According to Better Homes and Gardens, you should have your home carpet cleaned by a professional at least once a year, if not twice. If your carpet needs a good professional touch, contact a carpet cleaning company like Conscientious Carpet Care and schedule an appointment.

Construction Needs in Times of Disaster

I live in the middle of the desert, so I never thought that flooding would be a problem. However, a few months ago my town was hit with a huge storm. These freak storms are called "Hundred Year Storm" because the chances of them happening are once in a hundred years. Needless to say, no one was prepared for the aftermath--especially not the city sewage system. All this extra water had no where to go, and suddenly, I found my basement flooded. It wasn't a fun experience, but we dealt with it the best we could. Since then, I have spent a lot of time looking into different options for sewage, water lines, and other related things. We're now even looking into building a new house. This blog is the result of my ongoing research.
